3 Reasons you need a Bunk Bed

Bunk beds are a space-saving secret for apartment-dwelling parents across the country. Despite what you may think, however, bunk beds are no longer reserved for shared kids' bedrooms. In this day and age, they serve as far more than the standard twin-over-twin layout. Read below to learn the three reasons bunk beds are a must-have furnishing within your home.

  1. Save floor space. Bunk beds can help you save space in more than shared children's bedrooms. A futon bunk bed adds necessary sleeping space and a lounging area to a child's bedroom. The bottom-bunk futon can act as a space for watching movies with friends as well as additional sleeping quarters for sleepovers. Adding a bunk bed with a desk to a home office allows the room to function as both a guest bedroom and a home office without sacrificing floor space. Finally, a loft bed maximizes the space in a teen's room by allowing you to turn the extra floor space below the bunk into a walk-in closet.
  2. Create defined spaces. Bunk beds allow you to provide your children with private spaces of their own within a shared bedroom. By using a bit of creativity, each bunk can have the look of a fort or tree house that they'll adore. Place a curtain within each bunk in order to create privacy. Adding a small reading light that clips onto the bed rails and a wall-mounted shelf within each bunk area provides lighting and nighttime storage to finish off the space.
  3. Less expensive. Typically, bunk beds are a more practical and cost-effective choice than purchasing two single beds. With single beds, the cost of headboards, bed frames, mattresses and box springs can add up quickly. When purchasing bunk beds, however, the only cost incurred is the cost of your mattress and of the bunk bed itself.
