Its surface has two colors (light and dark brown), and separated by a darker border in between as seen in the photo. I think the actual table looks prettier than the photos, which has reflections. I don't see that with mine. The 4 legs go through the bottom shelf that makes the top and bottom one piece and sturdy. The work is good and easy to install. Its shape is not meant for storage but for decoration. - cck
